The opportunities for further development of Greek exports across all sectors of the economy were highlighted by the first Greek business mission to North Macedonia in six years, which took place in Skopje, from November 5th to 7th, 2025.
According to an announcement, the mission was co-organized by the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Enterprise Greece, SEVE, in collaboration with the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Greece in Skopje and the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, with the support of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN-Hellas 2028).
The mission was attended by 22 dynamic Greek companies from the sectors of construction and building materials, food and beverages, agricultural and medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and services, which held more than 150 targeted business meetings with local companies. As part of the mission, on Wednesday, November 5, the Embassy of Greece in Skopje, in the presence of Ambassador Sofia Filippidou and the Hellenic Business Association of North Macedonia, hosted a dinner in honor of the members of the Greek business delegation. The importance of trade relations between Greece and North Macedonia for strengthening bilateral ties was highlighted by the presence of Timčo Mucunski, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Trajko Slaveski, Governor of the Central Bank of the neighboring country. The Head of the EU Delegation to North Macedonia, Ambassador Michalis Rokas, was also present.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Business Forum took place at the headquarters of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia. Opening remarks were delivered by Branco Azeski, President of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, and the Ambassador of Greece in Skopje, Ms. Sofia Filippidou. From the Greek delegation, greetings were given by Fanis Matsopoulos, member of the administrative committee of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vicky Makrygianni, Director of International Relations of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises, and Sven Van Asperen, member of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises.
This was followed by a presentation on the opportunities for trade cooperation between the two countries by Petros Al Ahmar, executive of the Directorate of Small, Medium, and Large Exporters – Industry – Energy – Shipping and Country Promotion of Enterprise Greece.
Subsequently, B2B meetings and networking sessions were held between Greek businesses and selected members of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, aiming to create synergies and new commercial partnerships.
In the evening of the same day, Eurobank hosted a dinner for the members of the business delegation. Eurobank actively supported the mission, reaffirming its strategic commitment to promoting international business growth and strengthening it through the Exportgate digital platform.
Referring to the results of the business mission to North Macedonia, the CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Yannopoulos, stated: “The meetings held between Greek businesses and market representatives of North Macedonia highlighted the importance of further strengthening trade relations between the two countries. Greek products already have a significant presence in North Macedonia, while the neighboring country is a dynamically developing market with particular interest for Greek entrepreneurship. Despite this positive foundation, there is still considerable room for the development of bilateral trade, especially due to the geographical proximity and complementarity of our economies. Further strengthening trade relations between Greece and North Macedonia can contribute significantly to the stability and prosperity of the wider region. Enterprise Greece will continue its work in this direction with consistency and dynamism.”
Fanis Matsopoulos, a member of the Administrative Committee of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “At a time of geopolitical turbulence and a resurgence of protectionism, Greek businesses are demonstrating in practice their commitment to increasing their export activity. This shift will position Greece as a key player in developments in the Balkans. In this context, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry co-organized this highly successful Business Mission, which aims to bring together the businesses of the two countries and finalize mutually beneficial agreements.”
SEV’s Director of International Relations, Vicky Makrygianni, said: “Today’s Business Forum brings together representatives from Greece and North Macedonia — two neighboring countries with historical, cultural, and economic ties. This event reflects our shared commitment to fostering dialogue, trust, and collaboration between our business communities and institutions. In recent years, our countries have made significant progress in strengthening their bilateral relations — politically and economically — aiming for mutual development, attracting investment, and ensuring regional stability. Today, as we face global challenges, the role of economic cooperation is more important than ever. By joining forces in areas such as trade, innovation, energy, and technology, we can create new opportunities that will lead to greater prosperity for both countries.”
Sven Van Asperen, member of the SEVE Exporters Association, said: “Today’s business mission in North Macedonia sends a clear message: being outward-looking and cooperating are the ways to grow. The large participation of companies from both countries shows that there is real interest and momentum for new synergies, investments, and trade partnerships. North Macedonia is a stable and important partner for Greece – with bilateral trade reaching 1.75 billion euros in 2024 – and there is great potential to further strengthen relations in sectors such as energy, food, technology, and construction. SEVE remains firmly committed to supporting Greek export businesses and creating fruitful partnerships that generate added value for both sides.”
